Moton School: Events: Plaquing Ceremony
at the R.R. Moton High School Building
August 31, 1998

On August 31st 1998 a ceremony was held on the lawn at the R.R. Moton High School where Director of the National Park Service, Robert Stanton, dedicated the school as a National Historic Landmark. The plaque is pictured to the left.

It was hot out under the Virginia August sun and many took shade under umbrellas as they listened to the many distinguished guests pay tribute. Being designated as a National Historic Monument is the highest level of historical recognition offered by the federal government.
