Moton Features Gen. Samuel V. Wilson
and Billy Eanes
The Robert R. Moton Museum, Inc., has announced that the
sixth annual Moton Labor Day Weekend will have two unique features. During the
day Saturday, according to Bessie Daugherty, head of the organizing committee,
rather than the traditional bus tour of historic sites, a continental breakfast
will be held at Wilck's Lake. And the Saturday evening banquet, the highlight
of the weekend, will feature two speaker, Gen. Samuel V. Wilson, recently
retired president of Hampden-Sydney College, and Billy Eanes, owner of
Captains Seas Seafood Restaurant.
Mrs. Daugherty reports that "we're trying something a little
different this year - a continental breakfast Saturday morning, two local
speakers at the banquet, and a dance right after the banquet."
The weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday evening, September 1,
with a reception at the historic Moton High School building. From 10 to noon
Saturday morning, the continental breakfast will be offered at Wilck's Lake.
That afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. an auction will be held at the Moton School,
featuring both artworks by Willie Shepperson and some unique Washington
Redskins items donated by a Hampden-Sydney graduate who worked for the 'Skins.
The banquet held for the first time at the Prince Edward
County Middle School cafetorium, will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday
evening, with speeches by Gen. Wilson and Mr. Eanes. Immediately following
the dinner, the dance will begin. Finally, at 11 Sunday morning, the
community church service will be held at First Baptist Church, with Rev.
James Ashton preaching.
Tickets are $40 for the entire weekend, $30 for the
banquet and dance only. Additional details and tickets can be obtained
from Bessie Daugherty (804)-392-8593) or Edwilda Isaac (804-392-1027).
